Shelly X MOD1 Brings Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to Appliances - Embedded World 2025
The Shelly X MOD1 is a compact module designed to bring Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity to everyday appliances. With dimensions of just 13.2 × 16.6 × 2.4 mm, it integrates directly into consumer devices like ovens, HVAC units, and washing machines—without altering their form factor or requiring external hubs.
At its core is the ESP-Shelly-C38F SoC, featuring a single-core RISC-V microcontroller and 8MB flash. Wireless connectivity is handled via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth® 5, allowing for fast configuration and flexible pairing across ecosystems.
The module supports manufacturers looking to add connectivity with minimal code, streamlining the development of smart-enabled white goods and electronics.
Developer-Friendly Kits and Hardware Flexibility
To assist with rapid prototyping, Shelly offers DevKits that bring out the full potential of the MOD1 module. One kit includes four onboard 16A relays and four digital inputs—enabling real-world control of lighting, heating, or motors during evaluation and test stages.
Up to eight configurable I/O ports are available, compatible with standard digital sensors such as DS18B20 and DHT22. Terminal blocks simplify connections—no soldering required—making this a practical tool for product teams iterating on embedded control logic or monitoring solutions.
The system integrates with the Shelly Cloud platform and supports control via the mobile app, Google Home, Alexa, and open protocols like REST API and MQTT.
Secure, Scalable, and Cloud-Connected
Shelly X MOD1 is built with scalability and data security in mind. Its hub-free architecture eliminates the need for central controllers, helping manufacturers reduce cost and complexity while retaining flexibility.
The module receives over-the-air updates and supports scripting via Shelly's automation engine. It complies with GDPR standards and the European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), making it suitable for smart product lines destined for the EU market.
