M5Stack Shows Off New Tab 5! A compact mini computer with a camera and full QWERTY keyboard
At Embedded World 2025, M5Stack returned with its signature approach to modular IoT hardware. Centred around a 5x5cm form factor, M5Stack’s development kits are built on the ESP32 and designed to be stacked like building blocks. From the Core and Atom series to STEM units and add-on sensors, the ecosystem is designed for fast prototyping and scalable applications. With more than 150 compatible sensors and function modules, developers can build IoT solutions without custom PCBs or complex integration.
Smart Home Integration with Home Assistant and ESP32
One of the standout demos was a Home Assistant setup running on a Raspberry Pi, paired with multiple M5Stack ESP32 modules. The board featured a smart doorbell, controllable lighting, a smart socket for power monitoring, and environmental sensing using CO₂ and distance sensors. All data is transmitted via Wi-Fi to a central dashboard, offering real-time visibility and automation potential. This setup moves M5Stack from a prototyping tool into the heart of a smart home platform, extending its utility beyond the lab bench.
What’s Coming – NanoC6, Table 5, and Compact PLC
M5Stack also previewed several upcoming releases. The NanoC6, one of their smallest ESP32 modules, is designed for ultra-compact applications. The STEM PLC is a DIN-rail-ready industrial controller with 8 inputs, built for automation tasks and programmable via Arduino IDE, ESP-IDF, or UIFlow—M5Stack’s online graphical interface. Finally, the Table 5 device combines a full QWERTY keyboard, colour display, and onboard camera with an ESP32-P4 chip, aimed at developers working on embedded vision or handheld interface projects. All devices are expected to ship in the next two months, pending certification.
M5Stack continues to expand its ecosystem from maker-friendly kits to smart home and industrial solutions. With native support for Home Assistant, programmable PLCs, and portable computing devices, the platform offers serious flexibility for embedded developers. Products will be available soon via the official M5Stack store and its global distributor network.
